Two separate warnings reached UAE Schengen visa applicants this year: one from VFS Global about fraudsters selling fake appointments, and another from the Danish Consulate General about a rise in fraudulent applications. Both point to the same underlying problem. As appointment slots stay tight during peak months, scammers have more opportunities to take money from applicants who feel they have no other option.

How the Fake Appointment Scam Works

VFS Global, which processes Schengen visa applications for most member states in the UAE, has publicly warned that fraudsters are posing as its staff or as authorised partners and offering to sell guaranteed appointment slots. In one widely reported case covered by regional media, a UAE resident paid a travel agent thousands of dirhams per applicant for a promised early appointment, only for the agent to stop responding once the payment was made. Genuine Schengen visa appointment slots are released free of charge by the consulate concerned, through the official VFS Global, BLS International, or embassy booking website. Any party asking for payment purely to secure a slot is not acting on behalf of a consulate or an official visa centre.

A Rise in Fraudulent Documentation

The Danish Consulate General in the UAE has separately warned of a surge in Schengen visa applications submitted with fabricated or falsified documentation, reporting that it receives roughly ten applications a day where the paperwork does not hold up to scrutiny. Some of these cases involve agents supplying fake sponsorship letters or employment documents rather than fake appointments, but the effect on the applicant is similar: a rejected application, and in serious cases, a record that can affect future Schengen visa applications.

Why a Shortcut Can Cost More Than It Saves

Regional coverage of these warnings has been consistent on one point: paying for a shortcut, whether a guaranteed appointment or a document prepared by an unofficial agent, does not improve the chance of approval and can actively damage it. Consulates assess the consistency of an applicant’s documents, not just their completeness, and a fabricated invitation letter or bank statement is often easy for a trained visa officer to identify.

What a Legitimate Booking Actually Looks Like

Officials at VFS Global have stated plainly that there is no fast track for Schengen visas and that visa decisions remain the sole responsibility of the embassy or consulate concerned. Paid add on services such as a premium lounge or a flexible appointment window, where offered, change the applicant’s experience on the day of submission. They do not change whether or when an appointment becomes available, and they do not influence the outcome of the application.

How UAE Applicants Can Protect Themselves

• Book appointments only through the official website of the consulate, VFS Global, or BLS International, never through a third party claiming to hold reserved slots.
• Treat any request for payment specifically to guarantee an appointment as a warning sign, since official slots are free.
• Prepare your own documents, or work with a registered agency that provides documents in your name reflecting your real circumstances, rather than fabricated letters.
• Register on the official waitlist for your destination country rather than searching for a paid workaround when no appointments are visible.
• Report suspicious offers to the relevant visa centre or consulate directly.

Whatever route an application takes, embassies usually decide within 15 calendar days of submission, as set by the Schengen Visa Code, and some cases take longer. No paid service changes that timeline.
