Spain Visa Appointments in UAE: New BLS Booking Rules

BLS International has changed how Spain Schengen visa appointments work for applicants in the UAE. Since late July 2026, every applicant must book their own appointment directly on the official BLS website, and slots booked through travel agencies or other intermediaries are no longer accepted at the visa application centres.

What Changed at BLS for Spain Visa Appointments

BLS International, which runs Spain visa application centres for UAE residents, has moved to a strict self booking system. The company says the change responds to evolving demand and improvements to its technical setup, including new verification technology aimed at stopping automated booking software. In practice, it means the person applying for the visa, not a travel agent or visa runner, must create the booking using their own passport and personal details.

Why BLS Made the Change

The stated goal is to stop the resale and misuse of free appointment slots. Appointments are now linked to the applicant’s own passport number and personal data so they cannot be transferred or altered afterward. BLS has repeated that it does not decide who receives a Spain visa and has no role beyond processing applications on behalf of the Spanish authorities. Bookings made through an intermediary will be rejected at the visa application centre itself, even if the applicant arrives in person with the right documents.

No More Rescheduling, Only Cancel and Rebook

One practical detail worth knowing before you book: BLS’s system does not currently support rescheduling an existing appointment. If your travel dates change, you need to cancel the slot you have and book a new one, which can matter if availability is tight that week.

What Dubai and Abu Dhabi Applicants Need to Prepare

A few requirements are worth flagging for UAE residents applying for a Spain Schengen visa now.

  • Book only through the official BLS International website. Appointment slots themselves are free.
  • Carry valid travel insurance with a minimum of 30,000 euros in medical and evacuation coverage.
  • Provide an employer issued No Objection Certificate that includes your Emirates ID number and other specified details.
  • If you are the spouse of an EU or EEA national applying alongside them, you now need a scheduled appointment too, since walk ins are no longer accepted for this category.

Avoiding Booking Scams

BLS has been direct about one thing: any so called BLS fee paid to a third party during the booking process will not be refunded by the company. If someone offers to guarantee you a Spain visa appointment for a fee, that offer is not coming from BLS or the Spanish consulate, and it will not speed up or guarantee anything. Book directly on the official website, and treat the appointment slot itself as free.

How Long Processing Actually Takes

Once your application is submitted, embassies usually decide within 15 calendar days of submission, as set by the Schengen Visa Code, and some cases take longer. Booking your own appointment early, rather than relying on a third party, is currently the most reliable way for UAE residents to stay on schedule for a Spain trip.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a travel agent still book my Spain visa appointment for me?

No. BLS International now requires applicants to book their own appointment directly through its official website. Bookings made by intermediaries are rejected at the centre.

What happens if I need to change my appointment date?

You will need to cancel your existing appointment and book a new one, since the current system does not support rescheduling.

Is there a fee to book the appointment itself?

No. Appointment slots on the official BLS website are free. Any payment demanded by a third party for booking is not an official BLS or consulate charge.
