Croatia Visa From the UAE: A Schengen Guide

12 August 20263 min readFastSchengen team

Croatia is a full Schengen area member, so a Croatian short-stay visa gives UAE residents access to the entire Schengen zone in one application. With the Adriatic coast, Dubrovnik, Split, and Zagreb all reachable on a single visa, Croatia has become a popular addition to Schengen itineraries planned from the UAE.

This guide is limited to the C-type Schengen visa: tourism, business, family visits, and visas for a nanny or domestic worker travelling with a UAE household. It does not address work permits, study visas, or reapplying after a refusal.

Where to Apply From the UAE

Under Schengen rules, you apply at the embassy or consulate of the country that is the main destination of your trip. If Croatia is your main destination, the application goes to the competent Croatian embassy or consulate, or to the VFS Global Visa Application Centre for Croatia in the UAE. Applications must be submitted in person, since fingerprints are captured for the Visa Information System, and this data is retained for five years from the end of the procedure.

Croatia also offers an online visa application form through the official portal, available in English, Russian, Ukrainian, Albanian, and Turkish. Applicants complete the form online, print it, and bring it along with the required supporting documents to the embassy, consulate, or VFS centre.

When to Apply

Croatian authorities advise submitting an application no more than six months before the start of the intended trip, and as a rule no later than 15 calendar days before departure. This 15-day guidance is about when to submit your paperwork, not a promise of how fast a decision will come back. On the separate question of processing, embassies usually decide within 15 calendar days of submission, as set by the Schengen Visa Code, and some cases take longer, so applicants should not assume both deadlines line up neatly and should apply with a comfortable buffer.

Documents by Purpose of Travel

  • Tourist visits: confirmed accommodation, a return ticket, and a day-by-day itinerary.
  • Business visits: an invitation from the host company in Croatia and a supporting letter from the UAE employer.
  • Family visits: an invitation from the host in Croatia together with documents proving the family relationship.
  • Nanny or domestic worker visas: proof of the employment relationship with the travelling family and confirmation that the household is travelling together.

All applicants need a completed and signed application form, a valid passport with blank pages, a passport photo, and travel medical insurance valid across the Schengen area for the full length of the stay.

Visa Fee

Croatia applies the standard EU-wide Schengen visa fee, which rose to EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged six to under twelve after the Schengen-wide fee increase that took effect on 11 June 2024.

Seasonal Demand From the UAE

Summer remains the busiest season for Croatia applications from the UAE, driven by the Adriatic coast, while shoulder-season months tend to have more available appointment slots. Booking early, particularly for July and August travel, gives more flexibility if a document needs to be corrected or resubmitted.

Practical Notes for UAE Applicants

Keep your passport valid well beyond your planned return date and carry copies of every document submitted at the visa centre. Since applications are submitted in person and biometric data is required, plan the appointment itself as part of your travel timeline, not an afterthought squeezed in at the last minute.
