Lithuania Visa From the UAE: A Schengen Guide
Lithuania is a full member of the Schengen area, and a Lithuanian short stay visa works like any other Schengen visa: a single approval covers travel across the whole zone, from Vilnius’s baroque old town to the Curonian Spit on the Baltic coast. This guide covers the C type Schengen visa only, meaning tourism, business trips, family visits, and visas for a nanny or domestic worker travelling with a UAE household. It does not cover work permits, study visas, or what to do after a refusal.
Who Needs a Lithuania Schengen Visa From the UAE
If you hold a passport from a country that requires a Schengen visa and you live in the UAE, you need a visa to visit Lithuania regardless of your UAE residence status. Family members of Lithuanian, other EU, or EFTA citizens follow a separate, more favourable process, but most UAE based travellers applying for a short tourist, business, or family visit trip will use the C type route described below.
Where to Apply
The Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Abu Dhabi carries out the examination and decision on Schengen visa applications from the UAE. Applications themselves must be lodged at the Lithuanian Visa Application Centres run by VFS Global, with locations in Abu Dhabi at the World Trade Centre on Khalifa Bin Zayed the 1st Street and in Dubai at Wafi Mall. An appointment is required, and applicants must appear in person at their first application to give biometrics. According to the Embassy, applications should be lodged no more than six months and, as a rule, no later than 15 calendar days before the intended visit.
Documents and Purpose of Travel
Whatever the purpose of your trip, the Embassy’s published checklist calls for a completed and signed application form, a recent colour passport photo on a white background, a passport issued within the last ten years with at least two blank pages and valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area, travel medical insurance covering the Schengen area with a minimum cover of EUR 30,000, a copy of a round trip flight reservation, and verifiable evidence of sufficient funds. Depending on the purpose of the trip, additional documents typically apply:
- Tourist visits: a full travel itinerary and a hotel booking or invitation letter.
- Business visits: an invitation letter from the Lithuanian host company and a letter from your UAE employer.
- Private or family visits: an invitation letter from the host in Lithuania covering the period of the intended stay, along with proof of the relationship.
- Nanny or domestic worker visas: documentation showing the employment relationship with the travelling family and proof that the household is travelling together.
Fees and Processing Time
The Embassy’s own fee schedule sets the Schengen visa fee at EUR 90 for applicants and EUR 45 for children aged six to under twelve, matching the fee applied across the Schengen area since June 2024. VFS Global also charges its own separate service fee, collected in UAE dirhams at the visa application centre.
On processing time, the Embassy states that embassies usually decide within 15 calendar days of submission, as set by the Schengen Visa Code, and some cases take longer, noting that in individual cases the period may be extended up to 45 calendar days when further scrutiny of the application is needed. There is no way to guarantee a faster outcome, so applicants planning travel around a specific date should submit their documents with a wide margin before departure.
Seasonal Demand
Lithuania sees its strongest UAE interest over the summer months around Vilnius and the coast, with a smaller but growing winter market for its Christmas markets and snow season. Applying several weeks ahead of either peak, rather than a few days before, reduces the risk of a delayed decision affecting travel plans.
Practical Tips for UAE Applicants
Keep copies of every submitted document, ensure your passport has enough blank pages and remains valid well beyond your planned return date, and make sure your UAE residence visa, if applicable, is valid for a comfortable margin beyond your trip. Since Lithuania sits fully inside the Schengen area, a Lithuanian visa functions exactly like a French, Italian, or Greek one for onward travel within the zone.
