Urgent Latvia Visa Appointment: UAE Applicant Guide

Latvia is one of the easier Schengen consulates to deal with from the UAE, and it publishes one rule that is genuinely useful when you are hunting for an urgent appointment: every emirate falls under a single jurisdiction, so you may lodge at whichever centre has a slot. When Dubai is full, Abu Dhabi is not a workaround, it is the published position.

Which Visa Application Centre Handles Latvia Cases in the UAE

Latvia runs its own embassy in Abu Dhabi and decides its own visas. Applications go through VFS Global, with centres in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The VFS Latvia one pager states that applicants residing in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain all come under the jurisdiction of the Embassy of Latvia in the UAE, and both centres serve that single jurisdiction.

Worth knowing about the queue you are joining: this embassy also covers Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar, and accepts applications from Pakistani citizens. Appointment pressure at Abu Dhabi is not driven by UAE demand alone.

Legitimate Ways to Search for an Earlier Slot

Treat Both Centres as One Pool

This is the single most effective move on a Latvian application and it is explicitly permitted. If the Dubai calendar is full and Abu Dhabi has something next week, take it. A morning of travel beats a month of waiting.

Monitor for Cancellations and New Openings

Cancelled and rescheduled slots return to the calendar unannounced. Checking at different times across several days is the only reliable way to find them.

Search Flexible Dates Instead of One Fixed Day

A single date search usually returns nothing. Widening to any day inside a two or three week window regularly surfaces an opening.

Book the Whole Family Onto One Appointment

Latvia requires personal appearance from every applicant, including infants and small children. Fingerprints are not taken under the age of twelve, but attendance still is. Families who assume a parent can lodge on a baby’s behalf end up rebooking, which is the slowest possible outcome when you are in a hurry.

Documented Compelling or Emergency Reasons

Genuine medical, bereavement or urgent business grounds with evidence can be raised with the embassy. Nobody can guarantee an outcome.

An Earlier Appointment Does Not Mean a Faster Decision

Latvia’s stated minimum is fifteen calendar days from receipt, extended to fifteen working days for nationalities requiring prior consultation with other Schengen states, and the Latvian ministry says processing may be extended up to forty five days where additional verification is needed.

One planning trap to avoid. The VFS Latvia page contradicts itself on how early you may apply, saying three months in one place and six months in another. Six months is the correct rule under the current Visa Code, so do not delay an application on the strength of the three month line.

The encouraging context: Latvia refused only 10.9% of UAE applications in 2025 on the European Commission’s own figures, against a UAE average of 23.9%. It was 6.2% in 2024, so the trend is tightening as volume grows, but it remains one of the more forgiving posts here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a Dubai resident apply for a Latvia visa in Abu Dhabi?

Yes, and Latvia states it explicitly. All emirates fall under one jurisdiction, so either centre may be used. This is the most useful thing to know when you need an urgent slot.

Does my baby have to attend the appointment?

Yes. Latvia requires personal appearance from every applicant including infants. Fingerprints are not taken under twelve, but attendance is still required.

How long does Latvia take to decide once the application is submitted?

Fifteen calendar days as a minimum, or fifteen working days for nationalities needing consultation between Schengen states, and up to forty five days where additional verification is required.
